Harambee Stars Show Power As Dem Thrash Grenada For Kigali

Na big performance be this! Kenya national football team wey dem dey call Harambee Stars put three goals past Grenada today, Monday March 30, 2026, for the third-place play-off of the FIFA Series at Amahoro Stadium for Kigali, Rwanda. Final score: Grenada 0 – Kenya 3. The boys carry themselves well and dem make the whole of Africa proud.

The victory sweet like sugar because just few days ago, Harambee Stars lose to Estonia on post-match penalties. But coach Benni McCarthy — the former South Africa and Celtic striker — make plenty changes to the squad and dem respond in the best way possible. Kenya go back home with one win from the FIFA Series and plenty confidence ahead of AFCON 2027 preparations.

How The Goals Come

The match start hot. For just the eighth minute, Grenada Bobby Williams foul Ryan Ogam inside the area. Referee from Tanzania, Ahmed Arajiga, give free kick. Austine Odhiambo — wey be real trouble for Grenada all night — step up but goalkeeper Thishawn Malcolm make the save. But Kenya no wait long before dem break the deadlock.

The rebound from the goalkeeper save fall to Odhiambo who fire home for Kenya first goal. The Harambee Stars fans for the stadium erupt with joy! Odhiambo also rattle the woodwork in the 32nd minute — if that enter nah the match for done by halftime. Kenya dey totally dominate and dem carry the 2-0 lead to the break.

McCarthy Use Every Player — Third Goal Seal The Win

At the start of the second half, coach McCarthy make three substitutions — Stanley Omondi, Erambo, and Rooney Onyango make way for Mohammed Bajaber, Alpha Onyango, and Daniel Sakari. The changes show how deep Kenya squad be and how serious McCarthy dey treat AFCON preparation.

Grenada try their best to find a way back into the game. For their best chance, Jabari De Coteau chase a through ball but goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo spread him legs and block the shot. Kenya hold strong and continue to push forward.

In the 81st minute, Zechariah Obiero — wey made him debut against Estonia — score him first ever international goal for the Harambee Stars! Lawrence Okoth provide the cut-back, William Lenkupae lay it off, and Obiero shot take deflection and roll into the net. 3-0! Game done and sealed. The third-place play-off belong to Kenya!

Young Obiero — A Star Born From England

Special mention must go to Zechariah Obiero wey born for England but choose to represent Kenya. Him father also play for Harambee Stars before him. Obiero currently dey on loan at Tranmere Rovers from League One side Leyton Orient. For just him second international appearance, him score him first goal — that na the kind of story wey give football fans joy and make the heart happy.

Clarke Oduor wey play for EFL League Two club Grimsby Town on loan from Bradford City also catch the eye with aggressive running and good defensive work throughout the match. Kenya football dey grow and this generation of players dey ready to represent Africa well.

What The FIFA Series Mean For Kenya

The FIFA Series 2026 feature 48 national teams — nearly quarter of all FIFA 211 member associations. For Rwanda group, Kenya face Estonia and Grenada.
