James Trafford admit say e no expect Manchester City go sign another goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, after im move from Burnley last summer.
The 23-year-old academy graduate return Etihad Stadium for first-team hopes, with expectation to become Pep Guardiola main goalkeeper. But Man City suddenly bring in Champions League winner Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
Donnarumma quickly become Guardiola new No.1, starting 23 Premier League games straight and seven more in Champions League, while Trafford dey play second fiddle.
Since Donnarumma land, Trafford don only feature for eight games in all competitions: five EFL Cup, two FA Cup, one Champions League. He keep clean sheet for 2-0 FA Cup win over Salford City last weekend, but speculation about him future dey grow.
Trafford “Didn’t Expect” Donnarumma Arrival
Trafford talk: “I didn’t expect the situation [with Donnarumma] to happen, but e happen, so I just have to get on with am. Na football, you must dey work every day and when game show, play your best. E dey add to my experience.”
Trafford sign five-year contract last summer, but limited game time and fading World Cup hopes for Thomas Tuchel England squad mean him future dey uncertain.
He continue: “I go take am day by day, dey work hard and improve. Everybody sabi wetin dey happen with me. Whenever I play, I go give my best.”
Trafford insist say no wahala exist between am and Donnarumma. “He’s a great fella, lovely man. We dey train hard together. He get good career and high standards. Some people go find am tough, some no. I just dey try my best.”
Summer Transfer Speculation
Guardiola confirm for December say Trafford no go leave in winter, insisting the “incredible” goalkeeper dey stay. But by January, e admit say e no sure if Trafford go remain for next season, leaving summer exit open.
Daily Mail report say at least one Premier League club show interest in January, and “number of suitors” fit surface before summer transfer window. Aston Villa reportedly eye Trafford as Emiliano Martinez replacement if he leave, while Newcastle United fit renew interest after missing him last summer and signing Aaron Ramsdale on loan.
